The NAS adaptation tool is a tool that allows you to visualise the consequences of climate change. With this tool, you can create conceptual diagrams showing the consequences of increasing heat, drought, flooding and sea level rise. For example, you can create a conceptual diagram that visualises the consequences for a particular sector or for your own field of work. You can select which climate trends and which sectors you want to visualise.

The NAS adaptation tool was developed based on visual conceptual diagrams from the National Climate Adaptation Strategy (2016). We manage the tool on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

What is our role?

Together with the ministry, we coordinate content updates of the tool. Furthermore, we manage the tool’s content and implement updates. We also answer questions from users and process suggestions they can make via the idea submission form. Furthermore, we monitor ourselves if there are developments that require us to adjust or expand impacts or effects. And in 2022, we have ensured that the tool meets digital accessibility requirements. In fact, by 2023, the tool has officially achieved status A.

Workshops with the NAS diagrams

Besides managing the tool, we regularly use the NAS adaptation tool ourselves. For instance, we have organised several workshops with the tool at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). We also use the tool in various projects to gain insight into possible consequences for a sector, area or organisation.
