In the European project REACHOUT, together with our Norwegian Partner NGI, we are creating interactive climate stories for the cities of Athens, Cork, Gdynia, Lillestrøm, Logroño and Milan. Together with these cities, we are working on ways to improve their communication on climate change adaptation. With climate stories we hope to reach specific users within the cities. We are proud that the first story has now been finalized and presented to the public: Ambrogio and Gaia’s climate story about heat in Milan. The story is available in English and Italian.

Climate change is often seen as “abstract” and “distant”. People quickly lose focus on difficult topics such as climate adaptation. What helps is to use storytelling to communicate climate information. Read more about it on the page ‘We make climate stories’.

weet alles over dit project

Ambrogio & Gaia

In the climate story about heat in Milan, you follow Ambrogio and his granddaughter Gaia on their way to the park during an extreme summer heatwave. They have been sleeping poorly due to the lack of cooling at night and are looking for trees for some shade. The story uses visualizations and maps to show how heat will determine Gaia’s future and the urgency of taking action. The green space and distance-to-cooling maps visualize clearly why planting trees is so effective in protecting cities from heat. At the end, users are encouraged to discover what Milan is doing to green the city and what residents themselves can do to make the city more climate resilient.
