Science Practice Lab

Towards an EU level playing field for assessing real estate physical climate risk

Date: December 9th 2022

Time: from 14.30 p.m.

Location: APG, Basisweg 10, 1043 AP te Amsterdam

Thank you for registering for our Science-Practice Lab on December 9th, 2022. We look forward to welcoming you from 14:30 p.m. at APG, Basisweg 10, 1043 AP in Amsterdam.

A short description of the meeting
Climate risk assessments are no longer optional for the financial sector. Reporting requirements are being tightened from the TCFD, EU Taxonomy, CSDR, and SFDR, but how this should be done is still unclear. From academia, it has been raised that climate risk analyses need urgent improvement in three areas: scope, data, and transparency (Arribas et al., 2022). This is also experienced from financial parties: the outcomes between data providers are inconsistent (e.g., Morgan Stanley (2021)).

Therefore, Reachout parners in collaboration with APG are organizing a Science Practice Lab to promote knowledge exchange between scientists and financial parties. The purpose of this meeting:

  • Financial parties share their experience with physical climate risks in light of reporting requirements
  • Scientists update latest knowledge with respect to European context with a focus on flood risk
  • Together, we discuss how to take the next step for a level playing field for EU-scale climate risk assessments.
