We have developed the <\/span>Dutch Climate Risk Portal<\/span><\/a> (DCRP) on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW). The DCRP serves as the central platform where national and international companies, as well as the financial sector, can access information and data on the physical climate risks facing the Netherlands, such as flooding, heatwaves, and other extreme weather events.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why a climate portal for the financial sector?<\/h3>\n

A great deal of information is available on how the Netherlands manages climate risks, but for a long time this information was fragmented, hard to find and sometimes difficult to interpret. This led to misunderstandings, for example the misconception that the Dutch delta region is more vulnerable to climate change than it actually is. The DCRP makes relevant knowledge and data clear and accessible, enabling professionals to better understand which climate risks are most significant for the Netherlands, how these risks are managed, and where to find the appropriate datasets.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who can use the new portal?<\/h3>\n

The portal is designed for the national and international private sector. This includes professionals working at banks and pension funds, insurers, real estate investors, regulators, credit rating agencies and businesses. For credit rating agencies, for instance, carrying out stress tests that incorporate climate risks is becoming increasingly important. The DCRP provides them with reliable information and data to perform these analyses effectively.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who do we work with on the portal?<\/h3>\n

The portal has been developed in collaboration with the NL AAA Climate Resilience coalition. For the content relating to climate data and climate hazards, we work closely with experts from the Dutch climate community. In addition, the portal has been further shaped in cooperation with the Climate Adaptation Working Group of the Sustainable Finance Platform of De Nederlandsche Bank. This working group includes representatives from banks, investors, pension funds, insurers, several ministries, and the Delta Commissioner\u2019s Office. During development, the portal was extensively tested in a closed environment by a broad group of users.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The DCRP provides a professional and reliable landing place for anyone working with climate data in the Netherlands. Its goal is to help users make better-informed decisions and to accelerate the development of climate data.
